The Plastic Age

Opening event on Wednesday, May 27, 2009
20:00-22:00

Within the general trend heralding the return to nature, it is quite radical to discover Gavriella Fenyves' ideology – celebrating the artificial world of plastic.

Fenyves actually criticizes the "naturals" and condemns the cynical use of natural and environmental values in politics.

The future, albeit Fenyves, is man made.

Fenyves's heroes are the science fiction writers of the sixties and seventies, those who imagined a utopian future.

Fenyves creates her own world. This is not a new aspect of her work although this series is considerably different from earlier series in the affect that realism has entered in a major way.

Despite her academic background, Fenyves became an abstract painter and her "inventions" appeared as small objects in an abstract setting.

This series combines realism and abstract in a compelling way. Although the compositions were painted from life, they are completely abstract.

Welcome to the plastic age. Do not be alarmed. It glows in friendly plasticine colors, in hope for a better future.
