Turner prize

October 22, 2005

For the first time is six years, an artist that actually works with paint has been chosen as a nominee. Gillian Carnegie paints still life, landscapes, figures and portraits - as classical as it gets.

Judges describe her work as done "with a highly accomplished technique. Yet while apparently following the conventions of representational painting, Carnegie challenges its established languages and unsettles its assumptions. "

The Turner prize exhibition is on show at the Tate Britain in London till January 22nd 2006.
