Gustav Bauernfeind, a German artist and architect, first came to the Holy land in 1880. After a few revisits, he decided to settle in Jerusalem in 1898, with his family. He painted in two styles - precise architectural depiction of buildings and streets and free-style, romantic impressions. He died in Jerusalem in 1904.
