After 1918 Gottlieb had proven himself an active contributor to the experimental work of the School of Paris. He never became a member of any specific school, and seems to have avoided committing himself exclusively to any style. By constantly renovating his style and his means, to communicate with a sense of immediacy and a vision that never ceases to be fresh, the lyrical feeling with which he handled all themes that presented themselves to his human and artistic responsibility.
